Sustainability at Revium – Carrotmob Talk

by John McRae on April 16th, 2010 | Posted in Revium News |

When we moved into the new office last year, we were determined to align with sustainabiliy guidelines.  I recently gave a talk to Carrotmob about how this had worked in practice. See their blog here

So what have we done at the office?  Firstly, we set up a Green Office group with 4 interested staff members and put aside half an hour per week for a meeting.

Wins

  • Printer – profiles set for grey scale and double sided
  • Rubbish and Recycling – separated at desk and kitchen level
  • New Paper -purchasing  recycled paper
  • Printer Cartridges – recycled via local post office
  • Servers – consolidated servers for power savings
  • Scanner/Printer – turned off when not in use
  • Fluoro tubes – used enviro friendly tubes

Partial Wins

  • Green Power – we use green power (but not 100%)
  • Windows – we put up blinds (but inside only)

Ideas We Looked At

  • Green IT Book
  • Scrap Book to reuse scrap paper
  • Green Office Accreditation
  • Sustainability  Grants

Still To Do

  • Power Monitoring
  • PC network cards that allow an offsite start (so they can be turned off before leaving teh office)

More from Carrotmob

Carrotmob is an interesting social action gathering wtih a simple aim of bringing more costomers to a store as long it agrees to spend a percentage of the extra takings on sustainability in teh work place. Melbourne’s first Carrotmob is here and we’re excited!!!

Where? We’ll be mobbing a small local convenience store – 52 Church St, Hawthorn (48 Tram line).
When? This Saturday 17 April – rock up anytime between 10.30 – 1.00pm and buy something you already need.
What? 100% of carrotmob profits are going towards greening up the store – come and make your dollar count and lets see if we can make Carrotmob Melbourne really happen!!!
