2009 post mortem and looking forward to 2010’s internet

by Andrew Ellett on December 18th, 2009 | Posted in Revium News |

Let’s start with a fairly non controversial statement: 2009 has been a momentous year for the internet industry in Australia. And a rather difficult year in business.  Revium have pulled through but unforutnately we have not grown at the pace we were aiming for. Here are four standouts, for starters:

  1. We’ve seen an National Broadband Network (NBN) announcement, unprecedented in scale and scope, which is set to transform our communications sector for all time… and all sectors that depend on communications.
  2. eSecurity remains a prime concern as the threats get more pernicious and the bad guys get badder – and richer.
  3. A landmark copyright case that will determine the liability of intermediaries under Australia’s expanded laws.
  4. We will shortly see the Government’s policy on internet filtering emerge from the deep.

Meanwhile, the Web 2.0 phenomenon continues unabated as users continue to defy old models and opt for self publication over predigested news and entertainment, democratisation over control, free over paid for, etc.

Now interact that statement with the previous four. With a quarter of the world’s population now online, we’re reaching a tipping point. How will government’s react? How will OUR Government react? Can they put the toothpaste back into the tube? What happens if they try? Where’s the collateral damage going to be? Will your company be caught in the heat as two giant tectonic plates, “progress” and “precedent”, rub up against each other.

For Revium 2010 will mean a year of social media and online marketing. We truly have become the agency we have been speaking about internally. Now we want to shout that to the world! Revium will be responsible for supplying customers to our clients and generating revenue for our clients. We are excited about growing your business in 2010! It’s no longer just about building. It’s about selling!
